Blog DataConversations Introducing the Data Conversation tool with the occasion of the Artistic Residency in Pisa

As the technical lead behind the digital architecture of Data Conversations, IN2 Digital Innovations is thrilled to celebrate a key milestone in our project roadmap. The 2026 Data Conversations Artistic Residency is now underway in Pisa (Oct 1–10, 2026), gathering 10 exceptional emerging creative professionals under 30 selected from over 75 applications across Europe.
This residency marks the exact moment where software engineering meets hands-on creative practice: the first public version of our digital Data Conversations Tool is officially getting into the hands of creative minds.

Bridging Impact Methodology and Creative Practice

Measuring cultural, social, and environmental impact is frequently perceived by Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs) as an administrative burden or a rigid compliance requirement for funding bodies. The Data Conversations digital tool was conceived to change that paradigm completely.
Building on established European frameworks, such as the MeMind Impact Canvas, the Europeana Impact Playbook, and the Museums of Impact framework, the web application guides users through structured phases of impact planning, measurement, reflection, and storytelling. Equipped with privacy-first AI assistance and intuitive workflows, the platform translates complex impact indicators into accessible, human-centered insights.

Our core goal at IN2 is to ensure technology empowers cultural professionals rather than overwhelming them. By digitizing and streamlining impact frameworks, the tool helps institutions and artists design custom cultural offerings, listen to their audiences, and communicate their true value with confidence.

Hands-On Testing with the Pisa Residency Cohort

The 10-day residency in Pisa, co-located with the Internet Festival, provides an ideal environment to put the tool to the test. During our dedicated session on Oct 2, we introduced the residents to the platform, exploring how a digital impact tool can support physical and participatory artistic interventions.

Throughout the residency, these international creators are designing and deploying interactive "info-experiences": participatory installations that collect audience insights without relying on traditional, static surveys. As the residents navigate from conceptual framing to prototyping and public testing, they are expected to actively use and stress-test the Data Conversations Tool with their creative process.

Co-Design in Action: Iterative Development Driven by Real Feedback

At IN2, research and innovation are at the heart of our engineering ethos. We do not believe in building complex tools in isolation. True software adoption happens when applications are co-designed and refined alongside the people who actually use them.

Putting the tool into the hands of these 10 artists represents the first major real-world user testing loop. By observing how creatives interact with the platform, where they encounter friction, and how AI-driven suggestions assist their reflection, we gather invaluable qualitative feedback.
Following our agile release lifecycle, these real-world user insights will directly inform our next technical updates.

What’s Next?

Getting the Data Conversations Tool into the hands of creatives in Pisa is just the beginning. Over the coming months, IN2 will integrate the learnings from the Pisa residency into the platform's upcoming public releases, expanding access to cultural organizations, networks, and creative teams across Europe.
We invite cultural managers, artists, and researchers to join us on this journey as we continue building digital tools that turn data into meaningful human conversations.
