From digital data to digital assets

IN2 supports access to multimedia content by combining concepts from knowledge management, artificial intelligence and human-computer-interaction. The technology can be employed both in the indexing, by providing automatic tools, and the retrieval side by enabling multimedia search capabilities. Using state-of-the-art methods of content-based multimedia indexing, we provide solutions and services for the automatic extraction of metadata for image, audio and video content.

Our tools detect shot boundaries, extract key-frames and other audio-visual information like camera and object motion, speech and sound events. Furthermore, multimedia material can be described almost textually using features like colour, texture, and shape, enabling visual queries and providing alternative and complementary visual search capabilities that can be used to allow customers to find fast and easy the desired content.

Several systems in co-operation with the Technologie-Zentrum Informatik (TZI) in Bremen, industrial partners, content providers and content owners to automatically index image and video documents have been developed in the framework of the projects: PictureFinder, AVAnTA and ADViSOR. These systems have been successfully evaluated and installed for TV archives, e-learning environments that use video content, and Internet image and film databases and are providing a set of technologies that can be easy customised to transform your multimedia data to digital assets.

IN2 provides beyond the current state of the art solutions and services to search, explore, experience, innovate, access and interface of multimedia content. Our mission is to support libraries, broadcasting archives, and multimedia content repositories to become full service information providers and turn their digital content into digital assets. IN2’s technologies are licensed to third party media asset management solution providers and for their excellence they have been awarded the "Innovationspreis 2007 ITK" in Germany.

We work closely with top universities and are actively shaping European funded research in the fields of digital libraries, technology enhanced learning, eInclusion and intelligent content.

In current projects we are developing several customised solutions along with providing services to support visual search and management for media art archives (GAMA: Gateway to Archives of Media Art) as well unobtrusive input and output interfaces for mobile access to navigational data (uWEAR: Wearable Computing for you!). Recent work includes video content search and management, efficient browsing tools for video data, video abstracting and extraction of representative frames, multimedia content presentation and search for learning management systems.
